Phyllis Muthoni | Kikuyu and Kiswahili Language Facilitator

Mrs Muthoni Phyllis has a warm and engaging interest in people and has a heart especially for the young – looking to impact their lives as they interact in different learning environments. She lives in the suburbs of Nairobi and has taught for more than thirty years. She has a Master of Arts and also a Diploma in teaching technical subjects. She has taught at all levels from primary to university level of learners. She also Pastors part time at a local church and is mainly involved in the teaching aspect of the ministry. She is passionate about African languages and especially how they help to build up confidence and a deep sense of identity. This was deeply stirred by watching children growing up in urban settings who do not speak or understand their African languages. Her own children are fluent in two African languages. In her spare time she enjoys outdoors – planting trees and flowers and also reads books, embroiders, knits and  bakes bread.

Frederick Mdege | Shona Language Facilitator

Frederick Mdege is a qualified primary school teacher with 19 years teaching experience.He has taught at a Government school and is currently teaching at SOS Hermann Gmeiner Children’s villages in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Frederick attended the United College of Education in Zimbabwe where he attained a Diploma in Education with a major in physical education.He also enrolled at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth,South Africa where he attained a FIFA CIES certificate in sports management.He is also the vocal person in the child protection and child safe gaurding committee at SOS Hermann Gmeiner Primary School in Bulawayo. Frederick is also a tutor for the Africa Language Academy Australia where he facilitates Shona online classes. His hobbies are travelling, watching movies, socialising and playing basketball.

Nzige K Kawaka (Kawaka) | Cultural Support Facilitator

Nzige K Kawaka (Kawaka) is a Youth Worker and founder of Kawaka Art. Originally from Tanzania, and living in Western Australia for the past 10+ years, Kawaka’s professional background is teaching visual art to primary students. His passion is to share and promote his culture through language, visual arts and traditional African music (including drumming and dancing). Kawaka’s goal is to restore the connection of his homeland with his children and other Diaspora children that might seek some information to feel connected with the African land, culture and people.

Monica Chibale | (B.A. Psych HSS, Hons Pysch, M.A. Psych- Dissertation) Bemba Language Facilitator

Monica Chibale is a fun and bubbly person who is passionate about touching young lives in teaching and mentoring. She lives in Eswatini ( formerly Swaziland) where she has taught Primary Education for the past 12 years. Monica attended The University of South Africa where she majored in Psychology and is currently working as a Special Needs Educator and School Counselor at Enjabulweni Independent School in Eswatini. She is also a member of the African Language Academy Australia where she facilitates the Bemba Language online classes. In her spare time, Monica enjoys reading, listening to music and singing, painting and fun outdoor activities.

Grace Chiboni Kapoma | A Zambian,based in Solwezi districtwith a professional background in teaching.

A holder of Masters Degree in Project Management,Bachelors Degree in SpecialEducationas major and Environmental Education as minor from the University of Zambia.

I have over 11 years’ experience working as a Geography Teacher and five years as a Special Education Needs Teacher.

In the field of Special Education, I have had opportunities to execute the skill of special education by giving individual attention to each learner both in the comfort of their home and in an inclusive educational setup.

My experience in Special Education Need (SEN) has been, but not limited to learners with hearing impairment, Intellectual Challenges and currently working with learners who are Autistic, Speech and language Delay. In this interest to assist individual with special needs, I am a founder of Edubest Academy, providing homeschool services to a child in need of education services.

For environmental related issues I have been privileged to serve as a club matron, prepare and organise learners fortours, competition such as quiz and debate where we merged winners.

I am 1 Million Teacher Black belt Graduate 1st Dan, and Bemba Facilitator at ALAA-African Language Academy Australia.

My work is centred on Environmental issues, Geography, Special Education Needs and Literacy.

My educational philosophy is every student is an individual, learning at their own pace in their unique way to achieve their learning progress through individualised attention.

Away from teaching I spend my time with my children, creating memorable moments through play. I also find time to be creative by tailoring curtains.

I love taking photos and academic reading of my interest.

I am always looking for new ways to experience the art of teaching and learning as learning is a never-ending process.

My prospect is to have a progressive career that impacts society and foster resilience, adaptability and confidence.

Charles V Kaluwasha | Lunda Language Facilitator

Charles V. Kaluwasha, a Lunda Facilitator at ALAA with years of expertise teaching children from the Diaspora to speak their native tongue, specialising in training students to speak their mother tongue at their best. Charles develops a series of classes to provide novices with a fundamental level of comprehension and conversational abilities in Lunda using his experience. Charles has used the Master in Nursing- Clinical degree he received from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand by concentrating on quality control, communication, and a safe approach. He teaches Entrepreneurship and Basic Business Skills Programs, e-Learning Software & Training at EDC/CJI Zambia. Charles may work on rostered schedules during the week, but he gets up on Sunday afternoons to teach Lunda kids because he wants to share their language. Charles is an author that enjoys reading and blogging in his spare time.
