Thrilled to share a groundbreaking initiative

The African Language Academy Australia (ALAA), run by an incredibly committed team in Perth, Western Australia, and Melbourne, received this year’s endorsement from our High Commissioner, Dr. Elias Munshya. The High Commissioner stated, “I wholeheartedly commend Mr. Davies Chibale, Mrs. Theresa Bwalya D’Emden, Mrs. Sofia Chaala, Mr. Charles V. Kaluwasha, Mr. Chewe Nkole, and Pastor Kenny Phiri for their vision and hard work. It’s initiatives like these that embody the spirit of unity and progress we wish to foster among Zambians worldwide.

The ALAA is pioneering online lessons to teach our major Zambian languages to our children here in Australia, New Zealand, and beyond. This noble effort aims to root the next generation deeply in our Zambian identity, ensuring they grow up fluent in their mother tongues and are proud of their rich cultural heritage. Languages currently offered include Tonga, Lunda, Nyanja, and Bemba, with plans to expand to more Zambian and African languages, including Shona and Swahili.

This initiative not only preserves our linguistic traditions but also strengthens the bonds within our Zambian diaspora community, empowering our children to be confident and proud of their Zambian heritage.

As your High Commissioner, I assure you of my unwavering support and that of the New Dawn Administration for ALAA and similar endeavours that enrich our community’s wellbeing. Let’s stand together in celebrating and supporting this initiative.”
